FUTURE ADVISE TO MY SON

Live life like a Lynyrd Skynyrd song.  Wait?  What?

Okay there I said it.  My Georgia, Eastern Kentucky blood comes to the fore front.  No, I’m not growing a mullet or putting a Trans Am up on blocks.  But there is something to be said about some Skynyrd.  And when I say live your life like some southern rock music I mean live it simply but effective.  Honest, full of love and life, moralistic, God fearing and most of all…rocking.  Now that’s not a bad way to live.

This thought came to me to me about 5:30 this morning.  Not sure why, but the channel in my mind must have been tuned to the swamp music station.  But it was instantaneous, “live life like a Lynyrd Skynyrd song.”  I don’t know where this random crap comes from folks.  I’m apparently just the messenger.  So what ever the days you brings try to find a classic rock station, I’m sure Simple Man or Free Bird is playing somewhere.  Maybe you’ll have the same sleepless night epiphany that I had.

side note:  I’m sure the true meaning of this thought will hit in the middle of the night sometime.  I’ll try to relay that peril of wisdom when it happens.

THE LONGEST JOB INTERVIEW…

Isn’t that what the presidential election really is?  The highest position in the land, but it’s still a job.  And honestly when was the last time you showed your “true” self in a job interview?  Pad your resume a little, agree with what ever your future boss (the American people) has to say.

“Of course I can.”

“Did that all the time at my last job.”

“Sure, why not…I’m an expert at that”

So why are we ever really surprised when the pre-November candidate we know and love becomes the post-election President “less than expected” disappointment?  The truth is no candidate is perfect.  They will always put their best face forward, but try as they might, they will ALWAYS disappoint someone.  But the best part about landing the ultimate job is that it’s almost impossible to get fired for being bad at it. There’s only been one throughout American history, but honestly, was he the only one to fail at his job?

BONUS THOUGHT:

Why during every election does everyone bring out the word CHANGE?  What if the last President left things in a near utopia?  What’s to change?  That’s the President I want, the one who doesn’t need change for the next guy.
